Midna (spoiler)
Midna
true form
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
After standing in line for 11 hours to get my Wii on opening night, I ofcourse bought the Zelda game along with it. I was really excited to play it, and I actually hadn’t read or looked up anything about it before I played it.
Midna is Link’s companion throughout the game. She’s kind of like an antihero, and she reminded me a lot of Etna. Pure at heart, but with a hard exterior. Her appearance changes at the end of the game, and that’s the costume that I decided to make. Perhaps I’ll make the other form later.. but I made this one because it seemed more possible with an actual human body.
I love Midna to pieces, she’s actually probably my favorite video game character ever. I love how she speaks in the game, and I love how Link seems to become incredibly attached to her.
I made this costume in a month (which was a stupid idea) in time for AX 2007. The entire back of the cloak is hand-painted to exactly match the character design. I even did the hardly noticable black background design. The skirt is also hand-painted. The crown and hairpieces were constructed from sculpey and wood.
The neatest part about this costume is that I used EL wire to actually illuminate Midna’s arm designs. They glow in the game, so I decided to do that as well, and it was the best costuming decision I’ve ever made- it adds so much to it.
